Township Assessor ~ Jessica Landry, MAAO

Property Inspection Program
The Township Assessor’s Office is conducting routine property inspections as part of a required 5-year review cycle recommended by the Michigan State Tax Commission.

Why did I receive a notice?
You may have received a postcard or door hanger indicating that your property is scheduled for an exterior review.

These reviews will be conducted at least once every five years to ensure that property records are accurate and up to date.

What happens during an inspection?
During this process, an assessor or field staff member will visit your property to conduct an exterior review only.

This may include:

-
Measuring structures
-
Verifying building characteristics
-
Updating exterior photographs
✔ No entry into your home will be requested
✔ Staff will not look through windows
✔ Staff will carry identification

If no one is available at the time of the visit, the exterior review will still be completed, and a door hanger may be left.

When will this happen?
Inspections will occur over several months, typically between May and December.

Fieldwork is generally conducted:

-
Monday through Friday
-
Between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Why are inspections necessary?
Accurate property data is essential to ensure fair and equitable property assessments.
If property records are incomplete or outdated, assessments may not accurately reflect the property.
This process helps maintain uniformity and fairness across all properties in the Township.

Can I refuse the inspection?
Yes. Property owners have the right to refuse an exterior inspection.

However, please note:
Refusal of an inspection may require the Assessor to rely on the best available information when determining property characteristics and value.
